Review: Buzz! Hollywood

April 30th, 2008

Gameplay 6.5

Buzz! Hollywood makes use of the four Buzz controllers that come packaged with the game. Connecting via the Playstation 2’s USB port, they allow up to four players to go head-to-head in a showdown to see who’s the most knowledgable about Hollywood’s most well known actors, tv shows, and a variety of other things to test your wisdom. There are thousands of questions at your disposal that are randomly selected throughout the game. This does, at least, make the game a unique experience every play through.

Whilst the Single Player doesn’t offer much outside of Time Builder and Hotseat, the multiplayer has a larger foray of options including Fastest Finger, Hollywood Stars, Top Rank, Pie Fight, and many more. What is questionable the most entertaining though, is the Quizmaster mode, which allows one player to be the Quizmaster–the person who asks the questions–and the other players are the contestants.

Before every game, the option to select, customize, and name your character is readily available, but the selection choices aren’t much to ponder at. Had the customization options been more diverse and allowed more than just the above choices, then perhaps this would have made things better.

Graphics 3.0

For being a last-gen console, this is the one department where an exception should be made; however, that is not the case here. Aside from the opening cinematic, the graphics are more akin to the original Playstation era as opposed to the last generation. Graphics aren’t always everything, but nicer visuals for this game would have made the experience a bit more worthwhile.

Sound 5.0

Nothing much to expect here. The music is dull and lacks variety. With so many movies mentioned throughout the game, it would have been a great idea to include a tune from the movie or one of an actor’s previous movies when the correct answer is chosen. Instead we’re left with a couple of songs that’ll make your ears bleed after playing for long lengths of time. The sound effects aren’t much better either. The voice acting is sub-par but is, ironically, one of the few parts they’ve gotten right with the game.

Replay Value 6.0

With so many questions readily available, you’ll never get the same questions asked during every play time. Even so, the game is likely to become rather boring as it doesn’t always gurantee an entertaining experience. For this reason there isn’t much need to return to the game time and time again.

Overall 4.1 out of 10

Buzz! Hollywood may not be the best entertainment package of choice, but it will certainly put your knowledge of Hollywood’s finest to the test. So if Hollywood is your thing, I personally recommend picking this game for the questions alone. Otherwise, save your money and purchase a title that will be more worthwhile.

First The Cake Is A Lie And Now Sonic Too?

April 30th, 2008

Sonic Unleashed

We all thought that Sonic Unleashed was going to be the second coming of Sonic The Hedgehog on all three next gen consoles, two of them we still have extremely high hopes for but what about the Nintendo Wii version? An interview with Sonic Team’s Yoshihisa Hashimoto in the newest issue of Play Magazine shows that the Nintendo Wii version of Sonic Unleashed is going to be a completely different game compared to the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions of the title. For example, we all assumed that Sonic Team was working on all three versions of the game but the truth is that Sonic Rush’s Dimps will be taking a hold of the Nintendo Wii version, this is not exactly a bad thing but with Dimps working on the Wii version the new “hedgehog engine” will not be used on the Wii, also Dimps is working on a new level design for the Wii which means Sonic Unleashed is a whole different game on the Nintendo Wii Console.

In other bad news, Sega has already started downplaying the 2.5D part of the game. Mr. Hashimoto has confirmed that the game is about half 2D and half 3D. This does not mean that all three versions of the game will be bad it just won’t be what we’ve all been expecting, there is still a good chance of Sonic making his huge come back this year.

Guitar Hero On Tour Track List

Guitar Hero On Tour

Activion announced the official Guitar Hero On Tour track list today but for some reason it’s only 15 songs when originally Activision announced 25 songs. Activision has said nothing on this as of yet but hopefully we’ll get some answers about the other 10 songs soon.
